Petrified Wood
Washington State
Petrified Wood is the US State Gemstone of Washington. It was adopted on March 12, 1975. Most of the petrified wood in Washington grew during the Miocene Epoch, some 5 -12 million years ago, when the state was swampy and mild, and played host to vast forests of cypress, oak, elm, and ginkgo trees. This image is of Petrified Wood ~ ...collected in Washington State.
Symbolizes man’s connection with the natural world. The wood helps to preserve a sense of healthy roots. (Literally “wood turned to stone”) is a type of fossil: consists of three raw elements: wood, water & mud.
Just imagine... standing in a lush semi-tropical forest, looking up at a 200 foot canopy of conifers and tropical flora. Those trees fell to the ground and into the waterways, entering into their journey through time. The logs were swept and tumbled downstream with sediment and other debris. As the logs were deposited in the plain they were buried with mud, volcanic ash and debris, beginning the petrification process. As the water seeped into the wood, it formed into quartz crystals that over millions of years, turned the wood into stone.
Petrified wood is a fossil. It forms when plant material is buried by sediment and protected from decay due to oxygen and organisms. Then, groundwater rich in dissolved solids flows through the sediment, replacing the original plant material with silica, calcite, pyrite, or another inorganic material such as opal. Notice how the patterns in this image truly resemble fabric. The distinctive patterns of wood cell fibers are visible.
The Healing Properties:
Petrified wood can assist anyone who is feeling stuck or experiencing being frozen in time. It helps to create balance and offers a foundation from which to launch new goals or undertake a different path. Petrified wood is also a wonderful grounding stone. It helps to calm scattered energies.
This is what we do...
Using high magnification lens we capture images deep within the microscopic typography of the stone and can transport the viewer into a micro world, far beyond what the naked eye perceives. Then we transfer those images onto luxurious fabric for "Stone Scarves”! Chiffon, lightweight and translucent, is the material of choice for our scarves as it allows for the printed design to be visible on both sides. The ultra-sheer fabric is printed using ecologically-safe transfer sublimation inks that provide vibrant color and strong wash durability. The printing process consumes no water and uses non-toxic bio-degradable inks. (We recommend washing machine with phosphate free detergent on a warm or cool delicate setting. Tumble dry low or line-dry)
Select size either (approximately) 36"x52" or 26"x72 and we will ship your beautiful scarf to you!
With environmental consciousness in mind, our fabrics are all printed using completely water-based inks. This means no chemicals or solvents are used. We transfer those images onto luxurious fabric using ecologically safe transfer sublimation inks that provide vibrant color. The printing process uses no water and uses non-toxic bio-degradable inks. Our heat fixing procedure fixes the colors and prints, avoiding the downsides of steaming, such as excess or contaminated water returning into the waste system. The textile industry is rife with sustainability problems: from the use of toxic inks and wasteful practices for materials and water, to a race to utilize the cheapest materials such as vinyl—no matter the environmental impact. Our print-on-demand process is designed to minimize fabric and ink waste. Reducing the use of materials, energy and water by choosing a pigment printing process instead of reactive dye.
Making use of stone that we personally collect, cut and polish to a mirror finish, coupled with high powered lenses, we transport the viewer into a microscopic world, far beyond what the naked eye perceives. The diversity, originality and beauty of what is revealed defy description. Those images are then transferred onto a variety of mediums. Consider textiles that are transformed into decor including decorative pillows, bedding, table linens, for both home and commercial use. And fabrics for the fashion world. GEO originals has opened the door to a realm of beauty crossing all genres with endless applications.
