We traveled to Utah in the Spring of 2015 with the hopes that cold weather was behind us... nope. Snow and temperatures in the teens did not deter us. After working for a while with frozen fingers, we were a couple of happy rock-hounds with Picasso Marble loaded in our truck and on our way to warmer climates (Arizona).
Picasso Marble is crystallized dolomite or calcium carbonate and is a type of metamorphosed limestone. This type of marble is only found in one location, in Utah in the USA. The colors of this stone can be quite beautiful, and the range of shades it comes in is quite diverse. It is a relatively soft stone between 4-5 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Identifiable by its striking and dramatic combination of browns, blacks, grays and white colors, each piece is different.
