This Chromium Green Petrified Wood is one of the rarest petrified wood ever discovered. It originates from a single deposit near Winslow, Arizona that was unearthed in the 1970's. By carbon dating it has been determined to originate from the Chinle Formation, Triassic era - approximately 180 million years ago. This specimen was once a conifer tree (Araucarioxylon Arizonicum) that grew to near 200 feet tall with a width of approximately 6 to 8 feet. During fossilization process, the organic matter from this tree was replaced with the element Chromium (Cr). the agatization process resulted in a natural mint green color.
